The Keyword Management tab is where landscape administrators can add, manage, and delete the keywords powering their landscape. This tab provides an overview of the keywords that define the landscape's scope and helps admins maintain an organized and optimized set of tracked keywords.

Overview of the Keyword Management Tab

In this tab, admins can:

  • View all keywords added to the landscape, along with:

    • Device: Desktop or Mobile.

    • Language: The language associated with the keyword.

    • Location: The country or region where the keyword is being tracked.

    • Added On: The date the keyword was added to the landscape.

  • Export Keywords: Download all keywords in a CSV for offline analysis or recordkeeping.

  • Filters: Search and filter keywords by criteria such as device, language, location, or date added.

  • Bulk Delete: Select multiple keywords to delete them in one action.

  • Add Keywords: Expand your landscape by adding more keywords.

Adding Keywords

To add keywords to your landscape:

  1. Click the Add Keyword button in the top-right corner of the Keyword Management tab.

  2. This action takes you to the Add Keywords step of the landscape creation flow, bypassing the initial landscape setup steps.

  3. Enter the new keywords, specify the device, language, and location, and confirm.

  4. Once added:

    • The new keywords are immediately allocated to your account’s keyword usage limit.

    • Tracking for the new keywords begins the following day.

    • Note: New keywords do not come with historical data; SiteCurve starts collecting data after the keywords are added.

Deleting Keywords

Admins can delete keywords from the landscape to free up space in their keyword allowance:

  1. Bulk Delete: Use the checkboxes to select multiple keywords and click Delete.

  2. Confirm the deletion to remove the selected keywords permanently.

Important Notes on Deleting Keywords:

  • Deleting keywords removes all historical data associated with those keywords from the landscape.

  • The metrics in the landscape will update accordingly after deletion.

  • Deleted keywords free up keyword allowance immediately, enabling admins to reuse those slots without waiting.

  • Any followed sites in user portfolios that rely on the deleted keywords will reflect the change. Notify users of the landscape about any significant keyword changes.

  • Avoid unnecessary deletion and addition of keywords as this disrupts continuity in data tracking.

Exporting Keywords

Admins can export all the keywords in the landscape for offline review:

  1. Click the Export button.

  2. A CSV file will download with all keywords and their associated metadata (device, language, location, and date added).

Best Practices

  • Keep Keywords Consistent: Avoid frequent deletions or additions to maintain reliable, long-term tracking and analytics.

  • Add More Than Needed: During initial landscape setup, include a comprehensive list of keywords to minimize disruptions from later additions. Its better to add too many keywords and delete later than add new after a landscape is created.

  • Use Filters: Leverage filters to quickly locate specific keywords for edits or deletions.

  • Communicate with Members: Notify members of any significant changes to keyword tracking that may impact portfolios or discussions.

It’s better to add more keywords than you think you’ll need at the start. Deleting keywords keeps historical and current data comparable because all historical data tied to the deleted keywords is removed. However, adding new keywords introduces fresh data without historical context, making it harder to compare trends across time.

What Happens When Keywords Are Added or Deleted?

  1. Adding Keywords:

    • Keywords are allocated immediately and begin tracking from the next day.

    • They do not include historical data; only fresh tracking data will be available.

  2. Deleting Keywords:

    • Historical data associated with the deleted keywords is removed.

    • Portfolio items dependent on the deleted keywords will reflect updated metrics.

    • The landscape’s metrics are recalculated and updated by the following day.
