The Winners and Losers page in Category Curves provides insights into the top-performing (winners) and underperforming (losers) domains in a selected category.

This page highlights changes in traffic or share of voice % for domains over a specific time period, offering a clear view of performance shifts and trends in the competitive landscape.

Why Use the Winners and Losers Page?

This page is essential for tracking which domains are gaining or losing visibility within the selected category. By analyzing performance fluctuations, users can:

  • Identify emerging competitors or threats.

  • Recognize trends impacting domain rankings.

  • Adapt strategies based on competitor movements in traffic or share of voice.

Key Features of the Winners and Losers Page

1. Trend Chart

  • Displays the traffic or share of voice % trend over time for up to five domains.

  • On page load, the chart highlights the top 5 winners or losers based on the selected filter.

  • Users can customize which domains to compare in the chart using filters.

2. Winner or Loser Filters

  • Choose between viewing winners (domains gaining traffic or share of voice) or losers (domains losing traffic or share of voice).

3. Time Period Selector

  • Use the header to define the time frame (e.g., last 7 days, last 28 days) for the displayed trends and data. SIteCurve defaults to ‘All Time’ which shows the change in visibility from the date your landscape was created to the current date.

4. Data Table

  • A ranked list of domains sorted by traffic or share of voice % gains (for winners) or losses (for losers).

  • Displays key metrics for each domain, including:

    • Traffic: Estimated visits over the selected period.

    • Share of Voice %: Visibility percentage within the category.

    • Domain Authority: A relative score reflecting domain strength from Moz.

    • Keywords: Number of tracked keywords ranking for the domain.

    • URLs: Number of URLs ranking within the category.

    • Domain Authority.

    • Traffic or share of voice % changes.

    • Specific time frames or data attributes.

Best Practices for Using the Winners and Losers Page

  • Focus on Long-Term Trends

    • Short-term fluctuations can be misleading. Analyze changes over longer periods for meaningful insights. This is why we default to ‘All Time’.

  • Monitor Competitor Gains

    • Identify what’s working for competitors who are gaining visibility and adapt strategies to close the gap.

  • Act on Losing Trends

    • Investigate why competitors are losing share of voice or traffic. This could highlight opportunities to improve your own strategy.

  • Track Key Metrics

    • Pay attention to metrics like domain authority and share of voice % to better understand why certain domains are winning or losing.

  • Regularly Export Data

    • Export performance data to track historical trends and inform long-term strategy planning.

  • Report on Progress of Owned Domains

    • Screenshot or export data to report on the gain or loss of visibility for domains you own or manage.
